Hyderabad: A DJ night featuring Bollywood actor Sunny Leone, scheduled to take place at Illusion Pub in Jubilee Hills on November 30, was cancelled last minute due to police intervention. The event, planned from 11 pm to 12:30 am, had drawn nearly 500 ticketed attendees via BookMyShow.
Event cancelled over procedural lapses
The Jubilee Hills police denied permission for the event, citing procedural lapses by the organisers. Despite the denial, the organisers went ahead with plans, leading to police deployment at the venue to enforce the cancellation order.
Heavy police presence at venue
Nearly 100 police personnel were stationed at the venue from 8 pm until 1 am to manage the situation. As attendees began arriving, many were unaware of the cancellation and expressed confusion and frustration.
In an attempt to address the situation, the organisers released a video attributing the cancellation to Sunny Leoneās ill health. This claim, however, failed to pacify the crowd.
Fans express disappointment
Attendees voiced their dissatisfaction, with many upset over the lack of communication.
Shantanu Raghavendra, a resident of Madhapur, said, āI had purchased my ticket weeks ago and was excited to attend. There was no clear information about the cancellation until I reached the venue.ā
Similarly, Divya Reddy, a college student, stated, āWe spent money and time for this event, only to be turned away. The organisers should have been more transparent.ā
Event ends without incident
The situation was eventually brought under control, with police ensuring the event did not proceed. By 1 am, officers vacated the area as the crowd dispersed.
The unexpected cancellation has raised questions about event planning and compliance with legal requirements, leaving fans disappointed and seeking accountability from the organisers.
