Supreme Court backs HYDRAA, orders return of Rs 50 Cr Jubilee Hills plot
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court has dismissed a civil appeal of city-based businessman P. Satya Narayana against the Telangana High Court order about land encroachment
The SC has cleared the way for the Jubilee Hills House Building Cooperative Society (JHHBCS) to take back possession of 2,000 square yards of land in Jubilee Hills, estimated to be worth Rs 50 crore.
Long legal battle ends
Satya Narayana had approached the apex court after the Telangana High Court on August 21 ruled in favour of the Cooperative Society and the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). With both courts rejecting his claims, the legal tussle over the disputed land has now come to a close.
HYDRAA findings
HYDRAA, in its proceedings, had directed Satya Narayana to remove a tin shed and nursery garden from the land located on Road No. 1, Jubilee Hills. The authority concluded that he failed to produce valid documentary proof of ownership, affirming that the plot was part of the approved open space in the Society’s layout.
High Court stand
The High Court observed that once HYDRAA had passed a final order, the writ petition filed by Satya Narayana did not survive for further adjudication. It accordingly disposed of his plea in favour of the Society.
Supreme Court decision
A division bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan upheld the High Court’s order, dismissing the appeal. This verdict reinforces HYDRAA’s action and restores the land to the Jubilee Hills Cooperative Society.
