Hyderabad: The prices of chicken meat in Hyderabad have witnessed a significant surge, an increase of more than 15 per cent over the past three weeks.
The current rates reflect a noticeable uptick, with chicken prices climbing from Rs 106 per kg on November 27 to Rs 126 on December 18. This surge is consistent across various chicken types, encompassing those with skin, without skin, and boneless varieties.
As of Monday, live chicken is priced at Rs 122 per kg, witnessing a notable increase from Rs 97 on December 11. Chicken with skin is available at Rs 177 per kg, up from Rs 141, while skinless chicken is priced at Rs 201, rising from Rs 160. The boneless variety, experiencing the most substantial surge, is now priced at Rs 360 per kg, compared to Rs 300 on December 11.
Vamshee Reddy, owner of Reddy Chicken Shop, attributes this rise to heightened demand, especially fueled by the surge in weddings across the city. Reddy also noted that the conclusion of the Karthika Masam, a Hindu lunar month marked by religious observances, has played a role in the upward trajectory of chicken prices.
āThe increase in chicken rates is primarily due to the rising demand, particularly with the ongoing wedding season. The culmination of the Karthika Masam has further amplified this surge,ā Vamshee Reddy clarified, speaking to NewsMeter.
The surge in chicken rates is undeniably linked to the ongoing wedding season in Hyderabad and various parts of India. The city has experienced a considerable number of marriages during this period, leading to a surge in demand for chicken and subsequently impacting the rates.
