Surgeon among 9 arrested in drug raid at Chilkalguda flat; Rs 15 lakh worth MDMA seized
Hyderabad: Acting on a late-night tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force (East Zone) and Chilkalguda Police stormed a Secunderabad apartment on Tuesday, dismantling an alleged MDMA supply ring.
Two suspected drug peddlers, seven consumers, including a surgeon, an IT recruiter and private employees, were detained for drug use.
The police seized 100 grams of the party drug worth about Rs 15 lakh from the possession of the accused.
Swift raid in Seethaphalmandi
The joint team raided Flat No. G-1, Ideal Home Apartments, Seethaphalmandi, after surveillance confirmed suspicious movement. Officers said the action prevented a fresh consignment of MDMA from being circulated in the city’s club circuit.
Contraband and case
Investigators recovered 100 g of MDMA (Ecstasy), 10 mobile phones, and one digital weighing machine. The haul is valued at roughly Rs 15 lakh. A case has been booked under Cr. No. 458/2025 U/S 8(c) r/w 22(c), 27 NDPS Act, 1985.
Who was caught?
Police identified the alleged peddlers as: M Ramakanth alias Kiran (44), office assistant, resident of Chilkalguda, native of Kurnool (AP), Mudavath Prasad (30), vacuum technician, resident of Meerpet, native of Achampet.
Repeat offenders return to trade
Investigators said Ramakanth and Prasad were arrested in a similar NDPS case in July 2024, secured bail and allegedly resumed trafficking.
They are believed to have sourced MDMA from a Nigerian contact in Bengaluru at Rs 10,000 per gram and resold it for Rs 15,000, contacting clients through a dating application.
Public health concerns
Officials said the group frequently engaged in unsafe activity while under the influence of narcotics. “Some members are HIV-positive, which makes such gatherings a serious health risk,” an officer noted.
Police advisory
DCP East Zone Dr. B Bala Swamy IPS appealed to youth to steer clear of narcotics, warning that NDPS violations invite severe jail terms and drugs ‘wreck both health and future.’
