Three cities – Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati – from Andhra Pradesh with more than one lakh population secured fourth, sixth and eighth ranks

Swachh Survekshan 2023: Hyderabad declared 9th cleanest city; 3 AP cities on list

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been declared the ninth cleanest city in the country in Swachh Survekshan 2023 rankings, announced by president Draupadi Murumu at an event held in New Delhi on Thursday.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri presented the award to GHMC commissioner D Ronald Rose. In all, Hyderabad bagged five awards in Swachh Survekshan 2023. Apart from securing the ninth cleanest city rank, the city also bagged four more awards: Five Star rated Garbage Free City in India, Clean City in Telangana, First Five Star rated city in Telangana (over one lakh of population) and Water Plus city.




In 2022, Hyderabad stood in the top 10 rankings in the country’s largest cleanliness survey. However, the city improved its ranking by one position and secured ninth position in India in 2023.

3 cities from Andhra Pradesh in top 10

Three cities – Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati – from Andhra Pradesh with more than one lakh population secured fourth, sixth and eighth ranks respectively in the eighth edition of the urban cleanliness survey. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Audimulapu Suresh, accompanied by the respective civic body representatives, received the awards.

In the recent edition survey rankings, Visakhapatnam retained its fourth cleanest rank in the country (over one lakh population category). Swachh Survekshan's ranking of Vijayawada slipped by one position in 2023 and secured the sixth cleanest city rank in India. Similarly, Tirupati also slipped by one position and bagged eight Indian cleanest city tag in 2023.

Teams from the MoHUA conducted a comprehensive survey in as many as 4,477 cities across the country to assess the performance of urban local bodies in parameters such as cleanliness, citizen feedback and social media, and submitted their reports.
