Hyderabad: DGP M. Mahender Reddy on 11 May directed the police to strictly enforce the lockdown as per the directions of the state government. The DGP held a video conference with range IGs, DIGs, police commissioners, and SPs in the state on the implementation of the government's decision to impose a lockdown in the state for 10 days from 12 May.

During the video conference which was attended by additional DG (peace and security) Jitender, Mr. Reddy said all police commissioners, SPs, and DIG-level senior police officers should be on duty and take steps to strictly enforce the lockdown. He urged strict implementation of the lockdown guidelines in all major cities, especially Hyderabad, and district headquarters.

He said there were no restrictions on agricultural activities, grain procurement, and transportation in the state. Also, transport on national highways was exempt from the lockdown. Representatives of print and electronic media were exempted, too, provided they carried their press identification cards.

The DGP also said government employees are required to carry their departmental identity cards. Stating that only 40 people were allowed to attend a wedding, he said weddings must have prior approvals. Similarly, only 20 people could attend funerals, he added.

He said steps should be taken to ensure proper transportation of essential commodities and said special passes should be issued specifying local times for transportation of essential goods and other emergency services. Mr. Reddy instructed the police officers to register appropriate cases under the Disaster Management Act as well as the IPC against those who violate the lockdown rules. Commissioners and SPs concerned will issues e-pass to those who need to travel for an emergency, the DGP said.
