Telangana Budget 2021-22: What's in there for Hyderabad
The Telangana finance minister, Harish Rao, on 18 March presented the state budget in the Assembly. The budget has gone up to Rs. 2.31 lakh crore from Rs. 1.82 lakh last year.

On Thursday, Mr. Rao also released a roadmap for the development of Hyderabad. Here is a look at what the budget has for the city.
Metro Rail
In the budget estimates for 2021-22, the state government has proposed allotting Rs. 1,000 crore to the Metro Rail project.
Musi river beautification
An amount of Rs. 200 crore has been proposed for the restoration of the Musi river and for the beautification of the riverfront.
ORR-drinking water
The government has proposed an amount of Rs. 250 crore to supply free drinking water to the newly-formed colonies within the Outer Ring Road.
The government said it is providing 20,000 litres of safe drinking water free of cost to every household. This has reduced the burden of water bills on the poor and middle-class families.
Also, taking into account the future drinking water needs of the people of Hyderabad, the government is planning to take up a new project to bring water from Sunkesula near Nagarjuna Sagar to Hyderabad. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 1,450 crore. The budget proposes an amount of Rs. 725 crore for the project to be constructed in Sunkesula.
Annapurna centres, municipal corporations
To alleviate the hunger of the poor, the government is providing meals to 55,000 people every day at Rs. 5 per person through 179 Annapurna centres. It will continue to provide the same during this fiscal year.
Apart from this, the government has proposed an amount of Rs. 15,030 crore in the budget for various municipal corporations. This includes assistance to the Warangal Municipal Corporation for taking up development works worth Rs. 250 crore and Rs. 150 crore to the Khammam Municipal Corporation for development works.
Roads, IT sector
The government said that after the formation of Telangana, it has formulated and implemented special plans for the development of Hyderabad. "As a result of these measures, Hyderabad has for the second time ranked first in terms of social, economic, real estate, and employment parameters according to an international study. Nine flyovers, four under-passes, and three RoBs have been completed in the city. During the pandemic, flyovers, 300-km of roads, and 29 link roads were completed at a cost of Rs. 2,000 crore," said Mr. Rao.
The state has allotted Rs. 360 crore in the budget 2021-22 for the development of the IT sector in Telangana. Also, it has allocated Rs. 8,788 crore to the roads and building department to construct roads, flyover, and bridges.
