According to E. Thirupathi, Drugs Inspector, Quthbullapur, and K. Muralikrishna, Drugs Inspector, Malkajgiri, the firm had no drug license to manufacture 'White Petroleum Jelly' besides it failed to comply with labeling regulations.
The product, considered 'misbranded,' poses serious health risks to consumers as it did not adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and quality standards outlined in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).
Misleading Advertisement Leads to Seizure of 'ALTACOLD Suspensionā
In a separate incident, the Drugs Control Administration seized 'ALTACOLD Suspension' in Attapur, Rajendranagar, Rangareddy District. Its label contained misleading claims regarding the treatment of 'fever.'
The medicine, manufactured by Candour Pharmaceuticals and marketed by Altavista Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., was in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
According to G. Ravikiran, Drugs Inspector, Rajendranagar, and K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Shabad, the advertisement of 'ALTACOLD Suspension' falsely implied its efficacy in treating fever, violating regulations that prohibit such claims for over-the-counter medications.
āFever, being a symptom rather than a disease, cannot be directly treated by medicines like Paracetamol, as they merely alleviate discomfort without addressing the underlying cause,ā said Ravikiran.
