Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided an unlicensed godown in Uppal Khalsa, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, and seized illegally stocked medicines worth ₹6.70 lakh.

The raid was conducted on February 18 following credible information about unauthorized drug storage.

Expired Drugs and Abortion Kits Found

During the inspection, officials discovered a significant quantity of medicines, including expired drugs of six varieties. These included abortion kits, analgesics, and antihistaminic drugs. The drugs were stocked without a valid license by Addanki Venkata Suresh Babu at a godown located at D. No: 24-97-28/A, Ground Floor, Laxmi Narayana Nagar Colony, Uppal Khalsa Village.

DCA officials seized the entire stock and lifted samples for analysis. Further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken against all offenders under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Authorities Warn Wholesalers and Dealers

Officials emphasized that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities are also liable for punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. “Stringent action will be taken against those who supply medicines without verifying the recipient’s drug license,” the DCA stated.

The agency also reiterated that stocking drugs for sale without a license is a punishable offense, carrying imprisonment of up to five years.

Public Urged to Report Illegal Activities

The Drugs Control Administration has urged citizens to report any suspected illegal drug-related activities, including manufacturing in residential, commercial, or industrial areas. Complaints can be made via the DCA’s toll-free number, 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on all working days.

The DCA has assured that strict enforcement measures will continue to curb illegal drug storage and distribution across the state.
