Hyderabad: After an unusually dry start to the monsoon season, Telangana is expected to see a shift in weather patterns this week, with forecasts predicting scattered rainfall, overcast skies and isolated thunderstorms across the State, including Hyderabad.

Daily Forecast: Rain and cloud cover expected

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad will experience cloudy skies with intermittent rain from Tuesday through Sunday. While daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 31°C and 33°C, nighttime lows will remain steady at around 24°C to 25°C.

“Humidity levels will rise through the week, with a higher probability of convective rainfall in the afternoon hours,” said meteorologist KS Sridhar, speaking to NewsMeter. “We are expecting light to moderate rainfall in most districts, and there could be occasional thunderstorms, especially in the northern and central zones of Telangana.”

Rain distribution across districts

Districts such as Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam are expected to receive measurable rainfall. The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for isolated heavy showers in the Adilabad and Jayashankar Bhupalpally regions towards the weekend.

“While Hyderabad will mostly see cloudy weather and occasional drizzle, rural belts may experience stronger spells of rain due to higher moisture accumulation,” said Sridhar.

Concerns over delayed monsoon onset

Despite the upcoming showers, experts note that Telangana is still trailing behind in cumulative monsoon rainfall. As of July 13, the state has received 22 per cent less rainfall than the seasonal average for this period.

Urban Impact: caution for commuters

In Hyderabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has advised residents to be cautious during late afternoon hours when showers are most likely to occur. Officials from the Disaster Response Force (DRF) have also been placed on standby for potential waterlogging issues in low-lying areas.

Meteorologists believe this week’s rains could signal a recovery in monsoon activity for Telangana. “We are cautiously optimistic that rainfall will improve in the second half of July. However, the current deficit might take more than a week to offset,” added Sridhar.

With farmers, city officials, and citizens watching the skies closely, this week may prove crucial in deciding the agricultural and environmental trajectory of the season ahead.
