Telangana Formation Day: KCR hails state’s economic growth under BRS

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, announced that the state’s per capita income has increased from Rs. 1.24 lakhs to Rs. 3.17 lakhs over the past nine years. Additionally, the gross state domestic product has risen from slightly over Rs. 5 lakh crores to Rs. 13 lakh crores.

Hailing Telangana’s achievements since its formation on 2 June 2014, KCR, after hoisting the national flag at the Secretariat here, said the state’s installed power generation capacity increased to 18,453 MW from 7,778 MW nine years ago.

“In 2014, the per capita income of Telangana was only Rs. 1,24,104. With the progress achieved by the Telangana government, today the per capita income of our state has increased to Rs. 3,17,115. Telangana, which is only 10 years old, is better than the big states in the country in terms of per capita income,” KCR said.

He added, “In 2014, the GSDP value of the state was only Rs. 5,05,849 crores, but today the state’s GSDP has increased to Rs. 12,93,469 crores as all sectors of the state are financially supported.”

Before hoisting the Tricolour, he offered floral tributes to those who died during the statehood movement at Telangana Martyrs Memorial in the city.

According to KCR, the state has achieved 115% growth in GSDP despite crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2016 demonetisation. He also said Telangana is the only state where 100% per cent of households are supplied with purified fresh water through taps.

Assuring all-around development, he said his government will distribute titles of 4 lakh acres of ‘Podu’ land to 1.5 lakh tribals from 24 June.

The chief minister said as many as 1.50 lakh families will benefit from the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the second phase. Under the scheme, Rs. 10 lakhs will be given to a Dalit family for the purpose of setting up a business of the beneficiary’s choice.

It is a historic achievement that Telangana has overcome “ambiguities and hurdles” to become the most formidable economic power in the country, KCR further said.

The Telangana government has decided to celebrate the 10th Formation Day on a grand scale for 21 days beginning Friday.

President, PM greets people

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Telangana on the 10th State Formation Day while state Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and Union Minister for Tourism G. Kishan Reddy separately hoisted the national flag on the occasion here.

Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh following a decades-long agitation and accorded statehood on this day in 2014.

President Murmu greeted the people of Telangana on its statehood day and said the beautiful state is emerging as a hub of innovation.

“My greetings to the people of Telangana on Statehood Day! Endowed with forests and wildlife, Telangana is also uniquely blessed with a rich cultural heritage and talented people. This beautiful state is emerging as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship. My best wishes for the continued growth and prosperity of Telangana,” the President tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi also greeted the people of Telangana on its formation day. He tweeted, “On the Formation Day of Telangana, my greetings to the people of this wonderful state. The skills of its people and the richness of its culture are greatly admired. I pray for the well-being and prosperity of Telangana.”

Governor Soundararajan hoisted the Tricolour at Raj Bhavan while KCR did the honours at the Secretariat and minister Kishan Reddy at the historic Golconda Fort.
