Hyderabad: A day after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men at her house in Nandanavanam Colony under the limits of Meerpet Police Station of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has called for a detailed report on the incident.

She asked the chief secretary A Santhi Kumari, director general of police Anjani Kumar and Rachakonda commissioner DS Chauhan to submit a report within 48 hours. Furthermore, the governor has directed the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Ranga Reddy District branch, to visit the victim’s house and provide all necessary support to her family immediately.

According to the police complaint lodged by the victim, on Monday, a group of eight youths barged into her house. Four of the accused took the victim to the third floor of the building and raped her, while the others held her brother and three children at knifepoint. The group of men were reportedly under the influence of ganja.

The police registered a case and sent the victim to Sakhi Centre for medical examination.

The victim works at a garment shop in Dilsukhnagar, while her younger brother works as a helper in installing flexi. She had recently come to a colony in Meerpet after her parents passed away and was residing with a relative.

Rachakonda police commissioner formed seven teams to search for the accused who are on the run.

On Tuesday morning, Congress party activists staged a protest holding placards that read ‘Save LB Nagar, stop ganja, stop drugs, remove belt shop’ at Nandanavanam Colony main road in Meerpet, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

The police took the protesters into preventive custody.
