Telangana govt approves Metro Rail Phase-II project: 76.4 km of metro line for Rs 24,269 crores

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has given administrative sanction for the implementation of the Metro Rail Phase-II Project consisting of five corridors with a length of 76.4 km with an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crores.

A GO in this regard was issued by principal secretary to Government M Dana Kishore on Saturday.

The proposed project would be taken up as a 50:50 joint venture (JV) project of the State and Central Governments. Of this, the State government would bear Rs 7,313 crores (30 per cent), while it expects the Centre to provide Rs 4,230 crores (18 per cent).

Additionally, Rs 11,693 crores (48 per cent) would be sourced through loans from multilateral agencies such as JICA, ADB and NDB, backed by the Centreā€™s sovereign guarantee. The remaining Rs 1,033 crores (4 per cent) would be raised through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

On October 28, the Telangana Cabinet gave its nod to the much-awaited Metro Rail Phase-II works with an estimate of Rs 24,269 crores and it would be completed in the next four years connecting key routes on all sides of the city apart from extending the present routes.

A detailed project report (DPR) of these corridors was begun and the officials would submit the DPR to the Centre for approval. In the first phase, the previous governments used a PPP approach to build a metro network that covered 69 km across three corridors at a cost of Rs 22,000 crores. Every day, over 5 lakh people use the Metro. L&T had expedited the project.

The new five corridors proposed in the second phase include Nagole to Shamshabad Airport (36.8 km), Raidurg to Kokapet to Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km) and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km), the officials said.

With the completion of the second phase, the Metro line in Hyderabad would have a total length of 115.4 kilometres and be able to handle an additional 8 lakh passengers every day, the officials added.
