To facilitate the timely completion of the takeover, transaction advisor IDBI has been asked to submit its final report at the earliest

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will complete the takeover of Hyderabad Metro Rail from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) by the end of the current financial year, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao said on Tuesday.

He set March 2026 as the deadline for the transition.

Smooth transition within financial year

Reviewing the progress of the takeover at a high-level meeting with a committee of secretaries and senior officials of L&T, the Chief Secretary stressed that the transfer must be carried out smoothly and expeditiously in accordance with the agreement reached between both parties.

He said the process should not disrupt existing contractual arrangements and directed officials to implement the transition plan in a systematic manner over the next 100 days.

IDBI asked to finalise advisory report

To facilitate the timely completion of the takeover, transaction advisor IDBI has been asked to submit its final report at the earliest. The Chief Secretary also directed L&T to extend full cooperation to ensure a seamless handover of the Metro Rail operations.

Post-takeover plans

Following the takeover, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad has been instructed to prepare detailed proposals related to the operations and maintenance of the Metro Rail system.

The meeting was attended by Advisor (Urban Transport) to the Telangana government, NVS Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited Managing Director KVB Reddy, officials from IDBI, HMRL Chief Electrical Engineer DVS Raju and senior officers of HMRL.
