Musi river development project: Telangana to transfer 734.07 acres of land to MRDCL
Hyderabad: Telangana government has decided to transfer 734.07 acres of government land in Rangareddy district to the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL).
The move is aimed at expediting the Musi Riverfront Development Project (MRDP).
Land spread across four Mandals
The lands are situated near the Easa River in Himayatsagar, Kismathpur of Gandipet mandal, Premavathipet and Budvel in Rajendranagar mandal, and Kothwalguda in Shamshabad mandal.
This is part of the government’s plan to create a riverfront corridor along the Musi.
Institutions affected by resumption
The lands being resumed include those belonging to several key government institutions — Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratory (129.39 acres), Indian Institute of Public Health (41.27 acres), WALAMTARI (219.09 acres), ETC (VDOTC) in Budvel (99.05 acres).
In addition, government lands in Kothwalguda, including portions of the HMDA Eco Park, Tourism Department lands, and open areas currently under litigation, are also part of the proposed transfer.
Alternative land allocation planned
To ensure continuity of operations, the government has directed the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and the Rangareddy District Collector to allot alternative lands to the affected institutions. These plots will be provided in HMDA-developed layouts at Shamshabad mandal and in Future City.
Transfer subject to legal and procedural norms
Officials clarified that the resumption process will be subject to the outcome of pending litigations and the final allocation under the X Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
It will also follow alienation guidelines under G.O. Ms. No. 571, dated September 1, 2012, and the standard provisions of BSO-23 and BSO-24 governing government land use and utilisation.
Step toward reviving the Musi Corridor
The move signals renewed momentum in the state’s efforts to transform the Musi River into a sustainable urban corridor with green zones, public spaces, and modern infrastructure. The MRDCL has been entrusted with implementing the project across stretches of the river passing through Hyderabad and its adjoining areas.
