Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has admitted a writ petition filed by three street vendors alleging harassment and threats by authorities at their vending site near the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) in Madhapur.

Petitioners allege threats and eviction attempts

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy was hearing the plea filed by Raganimoni Ramesh Kumar and two others, who contended that they had been conducting lawful street vending at the location, but TGIIC officials and the police were interfering with their livelihood without following due process.

Violation of Street Vendors Act

The petitioners argued that their rights were protected under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, which mandates surveys, regulation, and issuance of vending certificates to vendors.

They alleged that despite these provisions, they were being threatened with eviction without any notice or opportunity of hearing.

No town vending committee constituted

It was further submitted that no town vending committee has been constituted for their area, resulting in the denial of their statutory rights to livelihood and regularisation.

Authorities seek time

Counsel representing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the assistant government pleader for home requested time to obtain instructions on the matter. The judge adjourned the case for further hearing.
