Telangana HC judge transfer: Lawyers stage `Rasta Roko'; call for strike on Friday

Telangana High Court advocates Association held an emergency meeting on Thursday regretting Supreme Court (SC) Collegium's decision to transfer Justice A. Abhishek Reddy.
THCAA President Verose Raghunath appealed to all the presidents of the bar associations to abstain from the work on Friday against the "uncalled-for transfer" of Justice Abhishek Reddy.
Lawyers protest:
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, members of the Telangana High Court Advocates Association led by its President Verose Raghunath abstained from the work in protest against the transfer of Justice Abhishek Reddy.
Advocates also staged a `Rasta Roko' to protest against the SC decision.
Recently, the division bench of Justice Abhishek Reddy and Justice Juvvadi Sridevi freed MLA Raja Singh, who was detained under the PD Act.
Why was Justice Reddy transferred?
The decision to transfer Justice Reddy was taken in a Collegium meeting which was presided over by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
As of November 1, Patna High Court was working with 34 judges against the sanctioned strength of 53. The court is short of 19 judges.
Justice Abhishek Reddy became an advocate in July 1990. He was appointed judge of Telangana High Court on August 26, 2019.
