Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday expressed sharp displeasure over the casual and lackadaisical attitude of Revenue and Irrigation Department officials, which has resulted in haphazard constructions on lands falling under Full Tank Level (FTL), buffer zones and natural drainage channels.

Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy, while hearing a writ petition, pointed out how Revenue officials issued Pattadar Passbooks to claimants despite objections from Irrigation authorities regarding the land’s inclusion in sensitive zones.

Writ Petition highlights demolition allowing drainage flow

The remarks came during the hearing of a petition filed by Palle Narasimha Reddy of Kachiguda, Hyderabad.

He challenged the Deputy Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department for permitting the demolition of a compound wall at Jawaharnagar, which led to drainage and sewage water flowing onto his property.

The court issued a notice to the State Government to file a counter affidavit and adjourned the matter for further hearing on September 9.

Justice issues advisory to apartment buyers

In a separate case, Justice Reddy cautioned prospective flat buyers to ensure parking facilities before purchasing apartments.

The warning followed a petition by A Surender Babu, Associate Professor and resident of Poorvi Residency Apartments, Rajendranagar, who alleged that GHMC officials allowed builders to construct apartments without provisions for promised parking spaces.

Need for vigilance in Urban Development

The High Court’s observations underscore the importance of stricter oversight in urban planning, particularly for lands in environmentally sensitive zones and in residential projects where promised facilities, such as parking, must be guaranteed.
