The Telangana High Court Single Bench, comprising Justice S Nanda, issued a stay based on a plea by TDP party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh challenging the Censor Board issuing a certificate to the film because it was an attempt to tarnish the image of the TDP chief allegedly while extolling his political rival and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Senior advocate S Niranjan Reddy, representing the movie producers, argued that it is not appropriate to approach the court and request a movie to be stopped based solely on watching the trailer. He mentioned that a 10-member committee examined the film and suggested the removal of some elements.
On behalf of the Censor Board, additional solicitor general Narsimha Sharma explained that after the certificate was rejected for the first time, the revising committee examined all aspects and made about ten changes and gave the clearance certificate.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Telugu political film Vyuham allegedly extolling Jagan is now a bone of contention as TDP gets a stay from the High Court. Ramgopal Varma, famous for his films portraying neo-realism and gratuitous gore, has been one of Bollywood’s stalwarts, with his first Hindi movie Satya blazing a trail of noir.
