Telangana launches Rs 1 Cr accident insurance scheme for electricity workers
Hyderabad: Telangana government has introduced an accident insurance scheme offering coverage of over Rs 1 crore for electricity department employees.
It is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, aimed at strengthening worker welfare.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced the scheme on Monday during a ceremony at Praja Bhavan, where he handed over a Rs 1 crore insurance cheque to the family of Jogun Naresh, an electricity worker who lost his life on duty under the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL).
Alongside the compensation, Nareshās wife, was given a compassionate appointment in the department. āThis is a historic milestone for the country,ā said the Deputy CM. āSuch a significant step towards worker welfare has never been taken by any previous government. This was made possible only under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Indiramma government.ā
The initiative, he said, reflects the administrationās vision and its humane approach to governance. The accident insurance scheme was initially piloted for workers in Singareni and has now been extended to the electricity sector, ensuring financial security and support for frontline workers and their families.
Deputy CM Vikramarka praised NPDCL CMD Varun Reddy for the effective rollout of the program and urged electricity employees to serve the public with commitment and confidence, knowing that the government stands firmly behind them.
The event was attended by government advisor Vem Narender Reddy and senior officials from the electricity and banking sectors.
