Telangana polls: Over 13k new voters registered in Hyderabad; Rs 45.94 Cr unaccounted cash seized

By Anoushka Caroline Williams Published on 1 Nov 2023 4:57 AM GMTHyderabad: Hyderabad district has witnessed a surge in voter registrations. Around 15,000 new voters have been registered in a single day bringing the total number of voters in the district close to 4.5 million.
District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner, Ronald Rose shared this information during a media briefing on Tuesday.
Rose revealed that approximately 1.35 lakh Form-6 applications have been received, of which 83,000 have already been processed.
In preparation for the upcoming elections, Distribution and Reception Centres (DRCs), Counting Halls, and Strong Rooms have been set up. Additionally, 45 Static Surveillance Teams are scheduled to report to their respective constituencies on November 3, along with election expenditure observers.
Efforts to improve voter turnout in the city include a sticker campaign conducted by booth-level officers (BLOs), with Voter Information Slips to be distributed once the final voter roll is published.
BLOs are visiting households, affixing 'proud to be a voter' stickers, and providing information on the polling date and station through pamphlets.
Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers have completed their initial training and are set to undergo two more training sessions.
District Election Officer mentioned that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been collected by Returning Officers and securely placed in strong rooms under police protection.
In terms of law enforcement activities, authorities have seized cash and other items worth a total of Rs. 45.94 crore in the Hyderabad district. This includes Rs. 18.62 crore in cash and other items valued at Rs. 27.03 crore.
Additionally, police and excise officials have confiscated 27.280 liters of alcohol. Other seizures include 440 kgs of precious metals valued at around Rs. 20 crore, 1,024 kgs of ganja and other drugs worth Rs. 2.57 crore, resulting in a total of 452 cases, including probation, 172 police cases, and 330 arrests.
