Hyderabad: Telangana posts 9 young IPS officers to key positions across Greater Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana has transferred nine young IPS officers to key traffic positions across Greater Hyderabad.

This follows Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's directive to post dynamic IPS officers to the traffic department in a bid to help ease congestion and strengthen law and order.

The transfers, which took effect on Saturday, are part of the government’s broader push to improve civic governance and deliver long-term, sustainable solutions to the city’s traffic woes.

Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Sunday said the reshuffle reflects the government’s priority to address public concerns through effective ground-level implementation.

Focus on Traffic, Law & Order

According to the DGP, while the government has been vigorously pursuing its crackdown on cybercrimes and drug trafficking, special attention is now being directed towards strengthening traffic regulation and enforcement.

The deployment of officers with proven field experience is expected to enhance efficiency in traffic management within the rapidly expanding urban landscape.

Strengthening Urban Commissionerates

The transfers are intended to reinforce traffic administration in the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, as well as in the newly established Future City Police Commissionerate.

Officers who performed effectively as Additional Superintendents of Police (SPs) in districts have been elevated to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) roles in urban areas.

Avinash Kumar, former Additional SP, Kothagudem (Operations), posted as DCP, Traffic-I, Hyderabad (Khairatabad and Secunderabad Zones).

S. Seshadrini Reddy, former Additional SP, Jagtial, posted as DCP, Traffic-II, Cyberabad (Kukatpally and Quthbullapur Zones).

Kankanala Rahul Reddy, former Additional SP, Bhongir, appointed as DCP, Traffic-I, Malkajgiri Commissionerate.

Shivam Upadhyay, Additional SP, Mulugu (Operations), posted as DCP (Traffic), Future City Commissionerate.

Senior-level appointments in Future City

G. Chandana Deepti (DIG, Railways) posted as Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration & Traffic), Future City Commissionerate.

B.K. Rahul Hegde, transferred as DCP, Traffic-III, Future City Commissionerate (Charminar, Rajendranagar, and Shamshabad Zones).

G. Ranjan Ratan Kumar, formerly DCP (Traffic), Cyberabad, posted as DCP, Traffic-I, Future City Commissionerate (Serilingampally Zone).

Vigilance & Enforcement Role

In a related move, Abhishek Mohanty has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General, Vigilance and Enforcement.

He has been tasked with curbing illegal activities such as sand smuggling, protecting natural resources, and safeguarding government revenue across the state.

The government expects the reshuffle to significantly improve traffic discipline, reduce congestion, and enhance overall public safety in Greater Hyderabad, the DGP said.
