Hyderabad: Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for constructing a bridge across Mir Alam Tank for Rs 430 crore.
Bridge location and purpose
The proposed bridge will connect the Bengaluru National Highway at Shastripuram to Chintalmet Road, significantly enhancing connectivity towards the southern corridors of Hyderabad and easing traffic bottlenecks in the old city areas.
Project execution under EPC mode
According to orders issued by the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department on Wednesday, the project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. This sanction replaces an earlier administrative order issued in March 2024.
Land acquisition and tender process
The government has permitted the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) to call for tenders under EPC mode even as land acquisition is undertaken simultaneously during the execution of works. The entire expenditure will be met from MRDCLās allocated head of account.
Quality and design vetting
To ensure quality standards, MRDCL will engage a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) agency for supervision, quality control, assurance, and audit of works.
Designs and structural drawings prepared by the EPC contractor will be vetted by reputed technical institutes such as IIT Hyderabad, NIT Warangal, or JNTU Hyderabad after PMC approval.
Further directions
The Managing Director of MRDCL has been directed to take all necessary follow-up actions in line with extant rules and procedures. The Finance Department has concurred with the proposal.
