Hyderabad: The sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested the vice-chancellor of Telangana University, Nizamabad, Dachepalli Ravinder, at his residence in Tarnaka on Saturday.
The arrest came after the accused was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Dasari Shankar, president of Sri Shirdi Sai Educational Society in Armoor town, Nizamabad district.
The bribe was offered as a reward for allotting an examination centre to the complainant’s college. The ACB team swiftly conducted a raid at the vice-chancellor’s residence in Tarnaka.
During the raid, the bribe amount was recovered from a cupboard in the master bedroom of the accused. Additionally, his hands tested positive in the phenolphthalein test, further corroborating the evidence against him.
The VC, through his improper and dishonest conduct, abused his position to gain an unfair advantage, said the police. Consequently, Dachepalli Ravinder will be arrested and presented before the principal special judge for SPE and ACB cases court in Hyderabad to face legal proceedings.
The case is currently under investigation, and the ACB urges anyone with information or similar experiences of bribery involving public servants to contact the toll-free number 1064 for taking action as per law.
