Hyderabad: Residents of Telangana can expect a brief respite from the rising summer heat as temperatures across the state are likely to drop by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts, with rain activity expected to continue till March 21.
These days are set to coincide with the festivities, as Telugu states are set to celebrate Ugadi and Ramzan this week.
What is the reason for this weather change?
IMD states that the sudden drop in temperature leads to the formation of troughs and upper-air circulations over Central and Southern India, which are drawing moisture from surrounding regions.
This atmospheric interaction is expected to trigger thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, which typically leads to a short-term cooling effect across the region.
As a result, day temperatures may fall by about 4–5°C, especially in areas receiving rainfall.
The areas likely to receive rainfall
The IMD has indicated that several districts across Telangana may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next few days.
Districts likely to be affected include Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet, among others.
Some districts may also experience isolated heavy showers along with strong winds, particularly during late afternoon or evening hours, as per the IMD.
