The TGANB honored 75 police personnel who have shown outstanding performance in the detection, investigation, and recovery of narcotic drugs worth Rs.22.67 crore, with 189 accused arrested in 67 most significant NDPS cases involving commercial quantities.
The selected cases span across the District Police and Commissionerates, with remarkable contributions from officers of various units. In addition to these, officers of the TGANB also cracked significant cases, further demonstrating the stateās unified and aggressive stance against the drug menace.
Some of the cases showcased the serious impact of drug transportation networks and the dedication of officers in dismantling them.
Case studies:
In one exceptional case, a Sub-Inspector U. Upender Rao of Mancherial police station displayed remarkable courage and commitment by diving into a river and swimming nearly 2 kilometers to apprehend an offender who had jumped into the water in an attempt to escape. This act of bravery has been widely appreciated and stands as an example of police determination.
In two separate instances, probationary IPS officers personally led operations and successfully seized significant quantities of Alprazolam at Nizamabad Rural police station. In other instances, though the accused used various concealment methods to safeguard their contraband, the TGANB along with L&O Police busted the said tactics and apprehended the accused and seized the contraband.

In February 2024, the Warangal NPS, in coordination with Gudihatnoor police, seized 28.155 kgs of dry Ganja on the outskirts of Mankapur, Gudihatnoor. A woman was arrested by the police, and they also seized 338.750 grams of dry Ganja from the possession of the accused.

In view of a recent case in Kamareddy District, where multiple individuals were affected after consuming adulterated toddy, posing a serious and life-threatening situation, TGANB has intensified its public outreach.
In response, TGANB, in collaboration with the Health Department and Self-Help Groups and L&O Police, conducted massive awareness programs in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.
More than 50 officers from TGANB, including local police, actively participated in these programs, educating the public on the dangers of adulterated toddy and drug abuse, and reinforcing the importance of a drug-free society.
Strengthening Investigation Capabilities:
As a supportive measure, TGANB is sponsoring the provision of high-precision weighing machines to investigation units across the State, including the Task Force, SOT, H-NEW, Clues Teams, and Railway Police. These machines will assist officers in:
* Determining the seizure quantity (Small/Intermediate/Commercial)
* Ensuring accurate documentation and forensic sampling
* Maintaining the integrity of the case
* Complying with legal procedures under the NDPS Act
This initiative not only strengthens operational capacity but also ensures more robust prosecutions and enhanced credibility in NDPS investigations.
Appeal to the General Public:
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau is committed to protecting society from the dangers of substance abuse. The cooperation of the public is essential in this fight.
