Hyderabad: Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) saved a Hyderabad resident from losing Rs 1.1 crore in a cyber fraud by freezing the money in the nick of time.

The incident happened on December 10, when the TGCSB team received a call on 1930. The caller said Rs 1,90,00,000 has been debited from his account. The victim confirmed that he had not received any suspicious messages or links and that the amount was debited without an OTP.

Soon, the 1930 team registered the complaint and followed up with the Punjab National Bank (PNB).

An amount of Rs 75,69,223 was intercepted and saved at PNB whereas an amount of Rs 35,00,000 was transferred out from PNB to other banks by the fraudster, which was also tracked and saved by the 1930 Call Centre Follow-up team and the concerned banking authorities.

"Initially the call was received at 1930 Call Centre by call agent G Mounika, WPC who acted swiftly and alerted the banking follow-up team of the call center headed by WSI Sirisha. WPC Swapna and PC Venkatesh alerted the Nodal teams of AU Small Finance Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank and followed up on the action. Because of their timely action, an amount of Rs 1,10,70,000 was put on hold at the respective banks," said TGCSB Director Shikha Goel in a statement.

Further follow-up for the remaining amount of Rs 79,30,000 is in progress.

It may be recalled that a week ago, TGCSB busted a fake online trading gang and arrested two men for cheating a man of Rs 8.14 crore in Hyderabad. The accused were identified as Rahul Dangi (21) and Rahul Bhoi (25), both residents of Udaipur, Rajasthan. The duo has been brought to Hyderabad for further investigation. Three mobile phones were seized from the possession of the accused.
