Hyderabad: To ease the financial burden on passengers travelling between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a 10 per cent discount on select bus services on this route.

The discount applies to both Hyderabad-to-Bengaluru and Bengaluru-to-Hyderabad journeys.

High passenger traffic volume during weekends

TGSRTC officials stated that the Hyderabad-Bengaluru route experiences high passenger traffic, especially on weekends. The discount is intended to encourage more travellers to use TGSRTC services.

For example, passengers travelling on the Rajdhani AC service will receive a 10 per cent discount on tickets to Bengaluru, saving between Rs 100 and Rs 160 per ticket.

Speaking to NewsMeter about the initiative, VC Sajjanar, VC & MD, TGSRTC, said, ā€œThis scheme has been started to encourage passengers to use these resources for their benefit. We aim to make travel more accessible for those commuting between Hyderabad and Bengaluru.ā€

Some find bus journeys with KSRTC better

The scheme has received mixed reactions from passengers, with some questioning the pricing and facilities compared to private and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses.

One user shared their preference for KSRTC, stating: ā€œIn my experience, KSRTC gives more comfort than TGSRTC. They run buses till Hitech City, catching the pulse of people. Even in buses in the sitting class, Airavat gives more comfort than Rajdhani. Othersā€™ opinions may vary.ā€

Another passenger highlighted pricing concerns, saying, ā€œEven after the discount, TGSRTC prices are higher than private bus providers. Private buses have more pick-up and drop-off points, and their hotel stops are much better.ā€

Others pointed out issues with rest stops, with one stating, ā€œTSRTC stops at unhygienic places, whereas KSRTC stops at good hotels with better restrooms.ā€

ā€˜Will revisit fares after schemeā€™s performanceā€™

Responding to concerns about pricing and facilities, Sajjanar added, ā€œIf passengers feel the fares are still high compared to private buses, we will review the schemeā€™s impact over the next few months. If any changes are needed, we will implement them based on public needs, as that remains our top priority.ā€

TGSRTC has stated that it will monitor the schemeā€™s performance over the coming months and make necessary adjustments based on passenger feedback.
