Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has appealed to its employees to refrain from going on strike.

TGSRTC said such action could seriously undermine the corporation’s recovery and growth.

This follows a meeting with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar where the TGSRTC employee unions outlined their demands. Prabhakar emphasized during the meeting how the company was progressively recouping its financial losses and encouraged the staff to refrain from going on strike in order to prevent public inconvenience.

In a press statement, the management emphasized that the corporation is making steady progress thanks to the collective efforts of its workforce. Highlighting its commitment to employee welfare, the RTC stated that every rupee earned is being reinvested in staff benefits.

Despite ongoing financial challenges, the corporation has fulfilled several key obligations: implemented the long-pending 2017 Pay Revision Commission (PRC) with a 21 percent fitment in May 2024, released 10 pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) in phases since 2019, cleared Rs 280 crore related to RPS-2013 bonds, ensured on-time salary payments on the 1st of each month for the past 3.5 years and gradually clearing arrears by regularly paying PF and CCS recovery amounts.

The management cautioned that a strike is not a viable solution and recalled the severe crisis triggered by the 2019 strike. It warned that further disruptions could jeopardize the very survival of the organization.

Additionally, the RTC reiterated that strikes are prohibited under the ESMA Act and are illegal according to company rules. Legal action will be taken against anyone who threatens or obstructs employees in the name of a strike.

The management called on employees to support the corporation’s ongoing efforts and maintain industrial peace for the collective good.
