Hyderabad: The city experienced a misty start on Wednesday as winter conditions tightened across the city. Several areas, including Shapur, Medchal, BHEL, RC Puram and the University of Hyderabad, reported dense mist until around 6:45 am, leading to reduced visibility and quieter-than-usual early morning traffic.

Morning routines adjusted

Despite the low visibility and chill, morning walkers and joggers continued their routines on roads and in parks. However, senior citizens chose to delay their outings.

“Early morning temperatures combined with mist can cause discomfort for older adults, particularly those with respiratory issues. Delaying outdoor activity by an hour can help,” said meteorologist KS Sridhar, speaking to NewsMeter.

At spots like Krishna Kanth Park in Yousufguda, regular walkers who typically gather before sunrise waited until the mist began lifting.

Roadside tea and coffee stalls saw increased footfall as residents paused for warm beverages before heading to work.

Police advisory on low visibility

Given the prevailing conditions, the tri-commissionerates of Hyderabad advised motorists to exercise caution.

The advisory emphasised:

• Using low-beam headlights during mist

• Avoiding high-beam lights, which scatter in fog

• Switching on fog lamps in affected zones

Police officials noted that early morning mishaps can be avoided if motorists reduce speed and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

Districts record single-digit temperatures

Beyond Hyderabad, several districts in Telangana continued to report single-digit temperatures.

• Kumuram Bheem–Asifabad recorded the State’s lowest minimum temperature at 7.9°C.

• Adilabad recorded 8.8°C, and Rajanna Sircilla stood at 9.0°C.

Other districts with temperatures below 10°C included:

Kamareddy (9.3°C), Nizamabad (9.4°C), Sangareddy (9.5°C), Siddipet (9.6°C), Nirmal (9.7°C) and Jagtial (9.8°C).

“These readings are consistent with the seasonal cooling phase. Dry northerly winds and clear night skies facilitate rapid heat loss, leading to lower minimum temperatures,” said Sridhar.

Temperature outlook for Hyderabad

The Telangana Development Planning Society reported that Hyderabad recorded a minimum of 12.8°C on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to dip further to 12.6°C on November 20 and 11.4°C on November 21.

“Temperatures in the city may remain below normal for the next two days by about 3°C to 4°C,” said Madhuri, adding that isolated areas could experience even sharper dips.

Low-pressure system developing over Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, according to the IMD.

“It is expected to move west-northwest and become more marked over the next 48 hours after formation,” said Sridhar.

Due to this system, the IMD’s seven-day forecast indicates light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in isolated areas of Telangana between November 22 and 26.

“The interaction between cooler land temperatures and incoming moisture from the Bay can trigger brief spells of rain. This will not significantly alter the winter trend but may increase nighttime humidity,” added Sridhar.

Hyderabad’s misty morning signals the strengthening winter phase across Telangana.

With single-digit temperatures in several districts, a forecasted dip in the capital, and a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, the State is set for a week of colder mornings and light weather disturbances. Residents are advised to follow police safety instructions and stay updated with IMD alerts.
