Three Telangana cops, one agent arrested in fake passport scam

Hyderabad: Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested three Telangana cops and one agent in the fake passport scam.
Earlier, 18 accused were arrested. The officers have arrested four persons in Hyderabad, bringing the total number of accused arrested to 22.
A passport agent Koppisetti Kalyan, a resident of SR Nagar, and three ASIs - Thippanna, ASI of Police of Maredpally Traffic PS; Shaik Nazeer Basha, ASI at Panjagutta Traffic PS; and Guntur Venkateshwarlu, ASI, SHE Team at Haka Bhavan, Hyderabad - were arrested and produced before the court.
The investigation is still in progress for collecting evidence and apprehension of other connected accused. It has been revealed in the investigation that, in addition to the 95 passports issued to illegal immigrants from Sri Lanka, another 30 passports have been issued in the same way bringing the total number of illegal passports to 125.
The same has been informed to the Passports and Immigration authorities for taking necessary action at their end. The investigation is carried out by special teams of CID under the direction of Shikha Goel IPS, Addl. Director General of Police, CID, TS, Hyderabad.
