Rajanikanth Poola, a weather observer, said the wind speed in the early morning hours on Wednesday was between 60-70 kmph. However, the wind speed came down to 30 kmph at around 8:30 am.
"There is a trough that is moving from Central Asia to South India. So there is a lot of moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal to Telangana. Also, there is a lot of instability in the atmosphere," he said
High-intensity thunderstorm
Thunderstorms occur Usually when there is a lot of lightning and thunder along with gusty winds. "The thunderstorms are also classified based on the height of the cumulonimbus clouds. The higher the cumulonimbus clouds, the higher the intensity of the thunderstorm. When these clouds touch a height of more than 7-8 km, the intensity is very high. As per the radar, today morning the clouds touched a height of 7-8 km. Sometimes they even cross a height of 10 km, which is the normal height of the troposphere," explains Rajanikanth.
Besides Hyderabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli also experienced thunderstorms of high intensity.
Due to the morning rains, some parts of the city including Begumpet, LB Nagar X road, and Old City were inundated. Besides, trees were uprooted and power lines were cut in some other parts of the city.
Weather observers said that the condition is going to prevail across Telangana except in the extreme North for the next 48 hours.
