Hyderabad: India's first Travelling Photo Exhibition on Tigers was inaugurated at KBR Park in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.
A joint initiative of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), Indian Photo Festival, and ICBM-SBE, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the conservation of tigers. The exhibition is for 30 days, and will travel around the city, including a few schools.
The exhibition features a collection of 18 awe-inspiring photographs meticulously captured by wildlife photographer Dr. Jitender Govindani over a span of 13 years. These remarkable images, borne out of months spent in deep jungles, showcase the elusive and captivating moments from the lives of tigers.
Dr. Govindani emphasized the critical role of tigers in biodiversity and shed light on their economic significance, revealing an astonishing value of Rs 280 crore.
āIt is crucial to recognize the vital connection between tiger reserves and the environment, as nearly 300 rivers originate from these protected areas in India. These revelations serve as a bitter reminder of the ecological importance of conserving these majestic creatures and their habitats," he said.
VC Sajjanar, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TSRTC said, "I am pleased to know that it is a first of its kind of an initiative in India. We have 3167 tigers in India and 53 Tiger Reserves. In Telangana, we have two tiger reserves and 30 tigers. Whenever prime habitat exists, there the tigers live. If tigers are habituating, it means it is a good forest."
He further said, "If people can't go to the forest to see the tiger, we want to take the tiger to them through this exhibition." He also highlighted the power of photography as a medium and its ability to evoke emotions and raise awareness.
Aquin Mathews, the organizer of the Indian Photo Festival said, "Photo is the best visual medium. Photography is the best medium to promote conservation. The importance of wildlife photography is that it evokes emotion, and awakens the spirit of conservation. The exhibition is the best thing to liberate the power of photography. It is tough to capture wildlife photos. You need tonnes of patience."
He further explained, "Since the public doesn't go to photo galleries, we are taking the photo gallery to them through this unique travel photo exhibition."
