Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has come to the rescue of Anand Raj, a final-year law student, who was suspended by SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Jadcherla, two hours before his exam.
Justice Bollam Viajysen Reddy remarked that the action of the college was “too harsh” and directed the college to permit Anand Raj to appear for the rest of the exam, which will conclude on May 6.
Anand Raj, a law student who is in the tenth semester, approached the High Court by moving an urgent motion and was permitted to appear for the exam.
Advocate Sirasani Goutham, representing Anand Raj, argued before the Court that the communication made to the petitioner just before the exam was vindictive.
Further, there was no opportunity given to Anand Raj before issuing the order. Moreover, that suspension would adversely impact his academic progress, potentially resulting in the loss of an entire academic year.
Asked about the grounds cited in the suspension letter, Goutham said 170 students complained of stomach pain and nausea due to food poisoning at the university. Of them, 37 students showed aggravated symptoms like vomiting, dehydration, and other symptoms.
Justice Bollam, hearing the petitioner’s grievance, granted interim relief, suspending the letter issued by the college.
For a further hearing, the matter was adjourned to May 2.
