Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Friday staged a protest at the GHMC office at Liberty, Tank Bund against the state government’s handling of the ongoing flood situation. The protest was led by TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, who accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of people affected by the floods.

Revanth said that the government has not done enough to provide relief and rehabilitation. He demanded that the government provide immediate relief to the affected and ensure that they are rehabilitated properly.

Accusing Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of inaction, Revanth said, “KCR is only interested in playing politics and does not care about the hardships of the people. He has encouraged party defectors and is now trying to poach leaders from other parties. KTR has been absent from public engagements since his birthday and is not addressing the people’s concerns.”

In response to the flood crisis, the Congress party called for a sit-in program at the Greater Hyderabad office and started the massive rally from Gun Park near the Assembly for immediate flood relief measures.

Congress seeks Centre’s intervention

They demanded the government provide Rs 10,000 to the poor and daily labour families who lost their jobs due to the floods. Additionally, they called upon the BJP president and Union minister, G Kishan Reddy, to respond and ensure that flood relief comes from the Centre.

Congress set up a control room in Hyderabad to coordinate flood relief and rehabilitation efforts as part of its commitment to being a responsible opposition party. Due to floods and heavy rains in the state, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s meeting scheduled in Kolhapur was also postponed.

As part of their protest against the government’s handling of the flood situation, the Congress leaders called for a shutdown of the GHMC office.

However, the situation turned tense with heavy police deployment at the GHMC headquarters. Congress leaders and workers were detained by the police when they attempted to enter the office. Even corporator Vijaya Reddy, who arrived on a bike, was not allowed inside.
