Traffic jams, accidents do not deter Hyderabadis; scores turn up for day 2 of Formula E trials

Hyderabad: The second day of the Indian Racing League (IRL) started around 11 a.m on Sunday. The matches are expected to go on till 4:30 p.m. Being a Sunday, scores of people turned up at NTR Marg to watch the race.

On Sunday state Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud came to watch the match along with Home Minister Mahmood Ali and Minister of Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav.

The car racing event is happening on the 2.7-km-long Hyderabad Street Circuit, the only street circuit in the country. The race track passes through NTR Marg, IMAX road, and around the Secretariat complex, completing a loop at the starting point. It has 17 curves. The roads are chosen based on their smoothness and the number of curves or turns.

The first round of the Indian Racing League is happening in the city on 19 and 20 November.



Minister for municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) K.T Rama Rao, on 19 November, flagged off the racing league at NTR Marg on the banks of Hussain Sagar. He also said that he was looking forward to Formula E racing in February.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad traffic police have issued traffic diversions in view of the event on both days. Traffic jams were also noted in several areas due to the diversion.

These races are also expected to be trial runs for the upcoming Formula E competition in February 2023.




Minor accident

Meanwhile, on Sunday, three cars collided at each other during the racing event. The saftey teams acted promptly and the race was resumed. Nobody has been reportedly injured in the incident.

A minor accident was also reported on Saturday. In a video shared on Twitter, a tree branch fell on a racing car in front of Prasads IMAX, and as a result, the car lost control. A big accident was averted.


The IRL will come back to Hyderabad on 10 and 11 December for its last round. There are six teams participating this time—Chennai Turbo Riders, Speed Demons Delhi, Bangalore Speedsters, Hyderabad Blackbirds, GodSpeed Kochi, and Goa Aces.
