Tragedy in Amberpet: GHMC worker fatally struck by bus, protests erupt

Hyderabad: A wave of tension has gripped the Amberpet area following a horrific road accident on Thursday morning, which resulted in the death of a GHMC sanitation worker.

The victim, identified as M Pushpa, was tragically killed after being run over by a bus at the Ali Cafe crossroads while performing her official duties.

CCTV reveals fatal collision

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, providing a chilling account of the tragedy.

The footage shows the victim walking while crossing the road when a bus suddenly approaches and delivers a fatal hit, leaving her no chance to escape. The impact was immediate, and the victim succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Protests disrupt local traffic

Following the accident, the situation in Amberpet escalated quickly.

Distraught over the loss of their colleague, GHMC sanitation workers launched a massive protest at the accident site. For over an hour, they refused to allow the police to move the body, staging a sit-in demonstration on the busy road.

The protesters demanded immediate accountability, calling for substantial financial compensation for the victim’s family and the provision of a government job for a surviving family member.

Police investigation underway

Amberpet police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to initiate a formal investigation.

A dedicated Clues team was also dispatched to gather forensic evidence from the site. Local authorities and police officials are currently working to pacify the protestors and restore order to the area, while simultaneously attempting to clear the road for commuters.

Investigations into the bus driver’s actions and the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing, the police said.
