Hyderabad: A house surgeon who was declared brain-dead due to her injuries in a road accident gave a new lease of life to five people. The family members of the 24-year-old doctor donated her organs to Jeevandan on Sunday.
The house surgeon, identified as Nangi Bhoomika, was employed at Kamineni Hospitals, LB Nagar. She, along with her colleague Dr V Jayanth (24), met with a road accident at Narsingi on February 1.
The tragic incident happened when the duo was returning home after attending a wedding in Shankarapally on January 31.
The SUV in which they were travelling lost control when they reached Khanapur, causing it to crash into a large advertisement hoarding pole on the median at high speed. Jayanth died on the spot and Bhoomika sustained severe injuries and was shifted to a Kamineni Hospital for treatment.
For a week, Bhoomika battled for life with the support of a ventilator. However, after the doctors attending Bhoomika did not find any improvement in her health, she was declared brain-dead by them on February 8.
Bhoomika’s father Nanda Kumar Reddy made the courageous decision to honour her memory by donating her organs-- Liver, Kidneys, Heart and Lungs to state-run Jeevandan organ donation.
"Jeevandan Telangana extends its profound gratitude to Bhoomika's family, whose noble decision has saved lives and inspiration. The Jeevandan Programme remains dedicated to raising awareness and facilitating organ donation in Telangana," said in a press release.
“We applaud the family for their remarkable act of kindness. Their determination to give organs despite their loss displays their altruistic nature. Organ transplantation serves as a magnificent bridge between one family’s pain and another’s hope. We are committed to ensuring that every donated organ is used to its full potential, providing renewed hope to those facing critical health challenges,” the hospital officials said.
