Trimulgherry sees highest road fatalities in 2020, reports 26 deaths
The highest deaths, 26, were reported in Trimulgherry followed by 18 at Tolichowki and 15 at Nallakunta, Falaknuma, and Begumpet.
By Sumit Jha Published on 15 Dec 2020 3:42 AM GMTHyderabad: On the night of November 8, a horrific accident took place at Trimulgherry, Karkhana junction where a techie and an interior designer were killed when their Hyundai Verna car crashed into a hoarding mast pole at Karkhana in Secunderabad on Sunday.
Identified as G Saikiran Reddy and G Sahil, they were returning home along with their friends Saicharan Reddy and Preetham Roy after a party when the incident happened.
According to police, the four persons are residing in different parts of the city. On Saturday night, they went for a drive up to Jubilee Hills. On their way home, Saikiran Reddy, who was behind the wheel, lost control near the Brand Factory store, and crashed into the mast of hoarding on the roadside.
Such was the impact of the crash that the front portion of the car was badly damaged and the two persons died on the spot. Saicharan and Preetham, who were seated on the rear seat, received severe injuries. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital, the police said. The vehicle is registered in the name of Gottam Upender Reddy, as per the police records.
The city saw around 226 deaths due to fatal accidents this year till November, according to the Hyderabad police. The highest deaths, 26, were reported in Trimulgherry followed by 18 at Tolichowki and 15 at Nallakunta, Falaknuma, and Begumpet. The highest number of accidents occurred at Mirchowk (122) where around 133 people were injured and 10 died. In Falaknuma, a total of 115 accidents occurred where 121 people were injured.
The highest number of deaths due to accidents, 36, occurred in November followed by 29 in August. January and February each saw 24 deaths due to fatal accidents while April, when the lockdown was in place, witnessed the lowest number of fatalities, only six. In April 2019, around 21 people had lost their lives.
Last year, during the same period, 250 people had died in fatal road accidents.
From January to November 2020, 1,646 accidents took place in the city. The Hyderabad traffic police said the highest number of accidents occurred in the evening hours between 4 p.m-5 p.m and 7 p.m-8 p.m. In 11 months, 98 accidents occurred during these hours. Also, 93 accidents occurred between 5 p.m-6 p.m and 8 p.m-9 p.m while 88 accidents took place between 10 p.m-11 p.m.
According to the data provided by the Hyderabad police, the highest number of accidents, 258, occurred on Saturdays, followed by 247 on Mondays, and 237 on Sundays. Also, persons in the age group 20-25 years were involved in 222 cases, while in 195 incidents people in the age group 25-30 years were involved. The data also showed that in 195 accidents, persons between the ages 30-35 years were involved.
Two-wheelers were involved in a majority of the accidents, 647, while four-wheelers were involved in 520 accidents and three-wheelers in 182. The highest number of victims were also the drivers of two-wheelers (834) followed by pedestrians (501). Pillion riders were also major victims of the accidents. In 91 cases, pillion drivers were injured. In fatal accidents, 64 people who died were pedestrians, 59 were two-wheeler riders, and 28 pillion riders. In November, eight pillion riders died in road accidents.
