Telangana: Chairman and Managing Director of TS-Genco and TS-Transco Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao resigned from his post. On Monday, following the change in the Telangana government, he sent a letter to the special chief secretary of the state, stating, “I am resigning as chairman and managing director, TSGENCO & TSTRANSCO (FAC) with immediate effect. Till alternate arrangements are made by the government, Ajay, Director (Civil) TSGENCO will look after the post of CMD TSGENCO and C Srinivasa Rao, JMO TSTRANSCO will look after the post of CMD TSTRANSCO.”

Several power projects in the pipeline

Prabhakar Rao played a key role when former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao decided to provide a 24/7 power supply to the agriculture sector. Telangana was the only state in the country which was providing free power to farmers round-the-clock for agricultural purposes.

In 2018, Rao received the prestigious Central Board of Irrigation and Power award for bringing Transco to the forefront.

During his tenure, state projects to generate 8,035 MW were under various stages of development. All four units of Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (4x270MW) were commissioned and the works at 5x800MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station have been expedited and were scheduled to be commissioned by 2024.

Prabhakar Rao had extended his tenure

In May 2019, the state government extended the tenure of Prabhakar Rao who completed 50 years of service in power utilities on January 10, 2019. He joined as an assistant accounts officer on January 10, 1969.

Department faced financial issues

A month ago, Prabhakar Rao said that the department was facing financial problems. He said that the department needed power from energy exchanges to provide quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers. But there were no funds for the same. He blamed some of the IAS officers for not releasing funds. He also tried to bring it to the notice of former CM KCR, but he could not get the appointment as the latter was busy.
