'TS’ to ‘TG’: Hyderabad Police begin replacing all police vehicle number plates with new code
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police have begun replacing ‘TS’ with ‘TG’ on all vehicle number plates.
This follows the Telangana government’s decision and the Centre’s official recognition of ‘TG’ as the state’s vehicle code.
The move affects all patrol, traffic, and official vehicles across the city.
Major repairs and upgrades
Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand directed the removal of old plates and repairs to ensure vehicles remain in optimal condition.
The City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters managed the overhaul of 188 vehicles, including machine polishing, denting, and painting of bumpers, doors, panels, engine repairs, and internal hardware work.
The total expenditure for the project is estimated at Rs 1.6 crore.
Patrol vehicles re-commissioned
As of Sunday, 134 patrol vehicles have been repaired and re-commissioned by CAR officials.
Other Hyderabad Police vehicles, including Traffic ACP, Inspector, Pilot, and Interceptor units, will undergo the process in the coming days.
Police drivers were instructed to maintain cleanliness and vehicle condition.
Ensuring Law and Order Efficiency
Officials emphasized that these updated vehicles will enhance the police force’s efficiency in crime prevention, emergency response, and city law and order management.
Government directives for uniform usage of ‘TG’
The Telangana government issued orders in May 2024 to replace all references to ‘TS’ with ‘TG’ in official documents, signage, websites, and communications of state PSUs, agencies, and autonomous bodies.
The Congress government, which came to power in December 2023, said the previous TRS government had adopted ‘TS’ arbitrarily after Telangana’s formation in 2014.
