Hyderabad: TV choreographer Kanha Mohanty and four others were arrested by the Cyberabad Police for their alleged involvement in the consumption and peddling of MDMA drugs.

The accused were caught from room no. 303 at the Kanha Boutique Hotel where noted architect Kondam Priyanka Reddy and Kanha Mohanty, who choreographed for hit television series like Dhee, organised the party.

The police seized 18 grams of MDMA drug, one gram of OG kush, seven grams of Indian charas and six mobile phones from the possession of the accused. Though the operation took place on November 30, the police revealed the details of the accused on Monday.

The arrested individuals were identified as Gulipalli Gangadhar (28), a stock market trader from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Gangadhar was identified as an MDMA peddler and consumer. The police named him as A-1 in the case.

Kanha Mohanty (24), a private employee residing in Hyderabad, was originally from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Mohanty was both a consumer and peddler of the drugs. He was named A-2 in the case by the police. The A-3 in the case was identified as Kondam Priyanka Reddy (28), an architect from Hyderabad, identified as a consumer. A-4 in the case is Ogirala Shaki (22), a job-seeker from Hyderabad, also identified as a consumer.

Case details

According to police, Gangadhar and Kanha Mohanty allegedly procured MDMA and other drugs from an unidentified supplier in Bangalore at a low cost and sold them to consumers in Hyderabad.

During the operation, Priyanka Reddy and Shaki were caught attempting to purchase drugs from the duo. The arrested individuals disclosed that the drugs, including MDMA, ganja and Indian charas, were sourced from Bangalore. The accused have been charged under Sections 8(C), 22(C), 27, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act.

Further investigation is ongoing to identify the supplier and additional links in the drug network, the police said and added that TGANB and police are not only focussing on the drug peddlers but also acting against the consumers, besides intensifying their vigil in the three Commissionerates-Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad.
