Hyderabad: Just two days after the devastating fire at Gulzar House in Old City that claimed 17 lives, Hyderabad reported two more fire incidents on Tuesday, highlighting growing concerns about lax enforcement of fire safety norms in densely populated urban areas.

Footwear warehouse catches fire

In the first incident, the fire broke out on the second floor of a residential-cum-commercial building on Chatrinaka main road in Bhoiguda, reportedly housing a footwear warehouse. Thick smoke engulfed the structure, prompting panic among residents and forcing an emergency evacuation. No injuries or casualties have been reported.

Firefighters from Chandrayangutta and Moghalpura fire station and local police responded swiftly to distress calls and brought the blaze under control using two fire engines. Preliminary reports indicate that an accidental spark may have ignited the fire, which spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable materials in the warehouse.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and are assessing the structural damage to the building. Fire safety officials have reiterated the need for stringent inspections and compliance in both commercial and residential premises.

Fire guts makeshift houses in Narsingi labour camp, no casualties

In another incident, a fire broke out at a labour camp near Om Convention Centre in Narsingi, damaging at least four makeshift houses. No casualties were reported in the incident.

According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, which may have triggered an LPG cylinder leak, leading to a rapid spread of flames. However, officials have yet to confirm the exact cause.

The fire reportedly began in one of the temporary shelters and quickly spread to nearby structures, creating panic among residents. Occupants managed to escape in time, avoiding injuries.

Locals from nearby residential areas noticed thick smoke and alerted the fire department and police. Firefighters, along with police personnel, reached the site and doused the flames. The presence of straw and plastic materials intensified the smoke and resulted in a strong, unpleasant odour in the vicinity.

Authorities have yet to estimate the extent of property loss. The Narsingi police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
