Uppal: Gowtham Model School student killed after truck hits auto

Hyderabad: A class X student died, while a driver was critically injured when a speeding truck hit the auto-rickshaw at Uppal signal in Secunderabad.

The impact was so intense that the auto-rickshaw crashed into a RTC bus.

The incident occurred at 7.45 AM on Saturday when an auto rickshaw with a student of Gowtham Model School on board was on its way to Habsiguda.

"The incident happened at Uppal signal when the truck hit the auto-rickshaw which stopped at the traffic signal. The auto-rickshaw crashed into the TSRTC bus which was in front of it," Osmania University police Inspector Rajender told NewsMeter.

The truck driver was reportedly driving rashly when he lost control and hit the auto-rickshaw. Truck hit the auto for three times, and the auto-rickshaw went under rear side of the bus.

The accident was so intense that the police officials had to use a crane to pull the auto-rickshaw which was stuck under the RTC bus.

The duo were immediately shifted to the hospital. Unfortunately, the student died while being treated at the hospital.

A case has been registered and the truck driver has been arrested.

A similar incident happened on August 14, when a 14-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a speeding car near Ramakrishnapuram Bridge in Neredmet, while he was on his way home from school.

The deceased Srikanth was the only child of Ammulu who lost her husband five years ago. The mother-son duo were living in Ananthayya Colony, Neredmet.

According to Neredmet Inspector Sandeep Kumar, Srikanth had stopped at the roadside due to heavy traffic. D. Vijay Kumar, an 84-year-old retired IPS officer, allegedly drove his car at high speed and hit the young boy, killing him on the spot.

Ammulu has been raising Srikanth single-handedly since her husband, Subbaiah, died after falling from a tree five years ago. Subbaiah's death left Ammulu to shoulder the responsibility of their son.
