According to reports, the wall collapsed due to the pressure caused by the rainwater passing from the main road to the lower road.
Several vehicles, including bikes and cars, parked in three apartments in the vicinity were submerged. The residents were forced to call private helpers to tow their vehicles. Subramanaiyam, a watchman in one of the apartments, expressed his disappointment and said, āThereās no help from the authorities, residents have called private helpers to tow their vehicles.ā
The locals had to hire private vendors to pump the water out of the cellars.
The situation has been further aggravated as there is no water and power supply in the affected area since Thursday night. āThe water tank in the cellar has been filled with soil and sewage waste, and the power circuit board was totally submerged,ā added Subramanaiyam.
The residents expressed their disappointment with the authorities for their inaction and lack of support. They have also expressed their willingness to shift apartments as they cannot continue to live in such conditions. āAll we can do now is move to another apartment,ā said one of the residents.
Local authorities have been alerted and are currently assessing the damage caused by the incident. However, the residents are still awaiting support and assistance from the authorities.
According to residents, there is a lack of proper drainage and infrastructure in the area, especially during the monsoon season, and are calling on the authorities to take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
