Hyderabad: HYDRAA personnel rescued a 35-year-old man from being swept away in a flooded stormwater drain near Yakutpura Railway Station in the Old City on Wednesday.

Incident near Yakutpura Railway Station

According to HYDRAA officials, Gouse, a local resident, was attempting to collect tree branches for goat fodder when he accidentally slipped into the raging floodwater drain. The powerful current dragged him downstream, leaving no safe access for an immediate rescue.

Alert residents, rapid deployment

Nearby residents who witnessed the incident quickly alerted HYDRAA personnel, who were working about 100 metres at Kachamoori, clearing debris.

HYDRAA Inspector Balagopal, along with his team, rushed to the spot and initiated rescue efforts under hazardous conditions.

Risky ladder rescue

With no direct entry point into the drain, the team lowered a ladder into the water, enabling Gouse to hold on and climb to safety. Corporator Vasi of Rein Bazaar, along with HYDRAA personnel Vamsi and Balaraju, played key roles in the rescue operation.

Thanks to the team’s quick thinking and swift action, Gouse escaped with no serious injuries, locals said. Authorities praised the HYDRAA personnel for their timely intervention in what could have been a fatal incident.
