Vikarabad science teacher suspended for displaying cow brain in classroom

Vikarabad: A science class demonstration involving a cow’s brain led to controversy in Yalal Mandal of Vikarabad district, resulting in the suspension of a schoolteacher and sparking protests from right-wing groups.

Cow brain used in science class

The incident took place at the Zilla Parishad High School for Girls in Yalal Mandal, where science teacher Khasimbee reportedly brought a cow brain into the classroom to explain biological concepts to Class 10 students. The teacher intended it as part of a practical science lesson.

Complaints trigger backlash

Following the class, several students informed their parents, leading to outrage in the community. Members of Hindu organisations, along with BJP leaders, staged a protest in front of the school demanding immediate action against the teacher, alleging that the act hurt religious sentiments.

Education department responds

Mandal Education Officer (MEO) Ramesh promptly visited the school and conducted a preliminary inquiry. He recorded statements from students and the school principal before submitting a detailed report to the District Education Office.

Teacher suspended until further orders

District Education Officer Renuka Devi, citing the MEO’s report and under instructions from the district collector, announced the suspension of the teacher. The Education Department also instructed Khasimbee not to leave the headquarters until further notice.

Police assure action

The local police stated that an investigation is underway and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. The incident has reignited a debate on classroom methods and the need for sensitivity while teaching potentially controversial subjects, the police said.
