According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in parts of the state on Monday, with maximum temperatures predicted to be 3-5°C below normal for the next three days.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, are expected to affect isolated areas, including Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sirsilla, Peddapalli, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
Rain Activity to Increase Till May 23
The IMD predicts that rain activity will intensify through May 23, with light to moderate showers expected in many parts of Telangana. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are anticipated to persist in most districts, potentially disrupting outdoor activities.
K. S. Sridhar, Meteorologist at IMD-Hyderabad, speaking to Newsmeter, stated, āWe are witnessing a surface trough in the region, which is pulling moisture from the Bay of Bengal. This is contributing to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in certain pockets. We advise residents to remain cautious, especially during peak thunderstorm hours.ā
Precautionary Measures Advised
Given the forecast, authorities have recommended safety measures for residents:
Avoid standing under trees during thunderstorms to prevent lightning strikes.
Secure outdoor objects that may be blown away by strong winds.
Be cautious while driving on wet and slippery roads.
Stay updated through weather advisories issued by the IMD.
Monitoring and Updates
The IMD-Hyderabad continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide timely updates as weather conditions develop. Residents are encouraged to follow local news and official announcements to stay informed.
