West Asia conflict: Leaders, civil groups unite for peace rally in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, a call for de-escalation and global peace with a peace march on March 29 has been scheduled in Hyderabad.

The call has been given by political stalwarts, civil society leaders and religious heads to advocate for immediate global peace. The meeting for the peace march was held at Maqdoom Bhavan in Himayat Nagar.

A call for humanitarian responsibility

The meeting was presided over by a diverse panel including M Kodandaram, Prof Vishwanath, and Narayana, alongside former MP Aziz Pasha, Syed Nizamuddin, and Lubna Sarovarh.

Leaders from the CPI, CPI(ML) and various trade unions joined religious figures to issue a stinging condemnation of ongoing international violence.

The Committee highlighted the ‘gross violation of humanitarian principles,’ specifically pointing to the tragic loss of innocent lives and the targeting of school children in global conflict zones. “War neither benefits nations nor serves the people,” the committee stated in a joint declaration. “It offers nothing but the loss of precious lives, economic devastation, and long-term social and environmental distress.”

Key initiatives and peace march

To channel public sentiment into action, the Committee announced a series of strategic moves aimed at building a robust peace movement within the state:

Mass Protest Rally: A large-scale demonstration is scheduled for March 29 to demand an immediate halt to violence and a return to diplomatic dialogue.

Legislative Action: A delegation will meet with the Leader of the House and various floor leaders to urge the Telangana Assembly to pass a formal resolution against war.

Public Outreach: The Committee plans to engage youth, university students, women’s groups, and professional bodies through a series of ‘awareness meetings’ and the distribution of educational pamphlets.

Intellectual Discourse: A dedicated seminar will be organised to bring together intellectuals and civil society ‘pressure groups’ to dissect the long-term implications of modern warfare.

Building a United Front

The Committee emphasised that the campaign is not merely political but a moral necessity. By reaching out to trade unions and grassroots organisations, they aim to create a ‘united front’ for justice and humanity.

The leaders appealed to all citizens of Hyderabad and the wider state to stand together, urging the international community to prioritise international law over military aggression.
