On 1 August, the police had received a complaint from Manne Sridhar Reddy, owner of Sai Durga Wines, who said Sunil had been working at the wine shop for over three years. Every evening he used to collect the earnings of the day from the shop and take it to Mr. Sridhar's business partner Ramchandra Reddy's home in Chaitanyapuri.
Since 1 and 2 August had been declared 'dry day', the shop did big business on 31 July. That evening Sunil set out with Rs. 22,38,000 for Mr. Ramchandra's home but he never got there. His phone, too, was switched off. Suspecting Sunil had stolen the cash, Mr. Sridhar filed a complaint and a case was registered.
According to the police, Sunil is from Yadadri district and was living in LB Nagar in the city along with his two kids. He had started a digital marketing business in 2015 and suffered a loss of Rs. 60 lakh. He was working part-time at Sai Durga Wines to make ends meet.
On 31 July he stole the cash and fled to Yadagirigutta where he stayed for two days and spent Rs. 28,000. He returned to the city on 3 August with the remaining cash. Based on reliable information, the police arrested him.
